XVIII Commonwealth Games
Mardo Gray's view of the Games
21st March 2006

Going Home

Well, it is Tuesday and I am back home after flying out of the Commonwealth City, Melbourne. I have had a great time there. I probably would have had a great time if the 18th Commonwealth Games had not been on, but Melbourne is that kind of City.

Arts, Culture, Coffee and Sport are the norm. Now I must return to real life and get out of my holiday mindset. While on Holidays I have forgotten what day it is at times. And as yet I have not seen a single event on TV. I expect that to change though.

I will have one last word about why I think The Games in Melbourne are a good idea. I have described the Commonwealth as a family. And the wealth is not common. In all families, some are better situated than others. And it is their duty to look after others in the family when it is needed.

For example, when it is time for a party for Mum's birthday, you go to the family member with the biggest house. When it is time for the games, you go to the country with the biggest stadium. I am sure Jersey, Norfolk Islands, or the Falklands would love to hold a major international sporting contest, but they do not have the facilities.

Melbourne does, and can. So in the spirit of both sport and Christian brotherhood, it should.
