Sore Winners
Despite the thumping victories inflicted in this tournament to date, I consider myself very lucky to have so far avoided seeing a sporting phenomenon common in this country - namely, bad winners.
That's right, not bad losers, but bad winners. Nothing is worse to me than a winner complaining about the game, the ref, the fans or opposition, or generally being an arrogant so-and-so. One can be gracious in victory as well as defeat.
It's a common phenomenon in Australia, and considering we're world champions at most of the sports we take seriously, i.e. cricket and three codes of football, some see it as their right.
This kind of behaviour makes me wish that Zimbabwe could have caused an upset in the cricket this month. Fortunately the Rugby League team took a hiding from New Zealand on the weekend (hopefully not an oval-balled omen for our Union team).
So with luck, maybe someone will take a test of Steve Waugh's cricket XI, or maybe the Rugby League Kangaroo XIII will finally taste defeat in Britain for the first time in 40 years to even the score... Just so Long as my Wallabies don't have to.
