More Than Gold: |
Introduction: |
More Than Gold is a cooperative partnership of Christ-centred organisations working together in service and witness at major multi-discipline sporting events.
At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, over 13000 followers of Christ were involved in More Than Gold activities coordinated by Quest Australia. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City over 100 churches and 1800 mission partners implemented 15 programmes including serving refreshments to visitors and meals to the homeless, collecting litter, chaplaincy at the Games Village and hosting opening ceremony festivals.
At the Sydney Olympics 2K Plus recorded over 180 interviews in six languages with athletes, spectators and Christians involved in outreach projects. These were heard by listeners to over 500 radio stations worldwide. For more information see our Archive section at www.2KPlus.net. In Salt Lake City over 700 radio stations received interviews and features produced by 2K Plus partners Sports Spectrum.
More Than Gold, Manchester: |
The More Than Gold initiative in Manchester exists to promote a united presence of believers in Christ at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
At the Games in July and August 2002, 2K Plus produced radio features for radio stations across the world. We interviewed athletes and coaches, visitors to the Games and some of those involved in Christ-centred outreach projects under the More Than Gold banner.
Working within our objectives of promoting an alternative Chris-centred lifestyle to sports fans around the world through radio we interviewed athletes and officials with a faith in Christ about their aims and motivation to discover the relevance of their faith in the twenty-first century.
We had a team of 18 reporters and producers, most of whom were based in two locations. The team included reporters from participating nations England, Scotland, Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Operating from a base in Rusholme in south Manchester reporters filed material via ISDN to the production base in Leeds where features were edited and packaged and sent to radio stations around the world via the internet, ISDN and telephone.
Also on the team were a photographer based in Manchester and a journalist producing text reports for radio stations based in London.
